The California State Summer School for the Arts is a state agency governed by a 15-member board of trustees appointed by the Governor, State Legislature, State Board of Education, California Arts Council, State University Board of Trustees, Regents of the University of California, and the California State Summer School Arts Foundation.
The California State Summer School Arts Foundation was founded as a 501 (c)(3) in 1986 to support CSSSA by seeking and administering gifts from corporations, individuals, and foundations. A 30‐member board of directors, appointed by the school’s board of trustees, governs the foundation. A number of trustees also serve as foundation directors.

3. Approval of Draft Meeting Minutes, August 20th, 2026

4. Architecture & Environmental Design Overview – Discussion
Department Chair Rohan Guyot-Sutherland will present an overview of the new discipline in Architecture & Environmental Design that launched in the summer of 2026.
5. CSSSA Foundation Alumni Engagement – Discussion
Executive Director of the CSSSA Foundation, Jeremy Deming, will present on alumni engagement strategies.
6. Chair Appointments Committee – Discussion and Potential Approval
The Chair Appointments Committee will share the results of a committee meeting, held on August 31, 2026. A recommendation will be made for the 2027 Chair hires.
7. 2027 Tuition – Discussion and Potential Approval
The Board of Trustees will review a proposed tuition increase for the 2027 session which includes comparisons of other residential summer programs.
8. Proposed 3 -Year Strategic Plan – Discussion and Potential Approval.
CSSSA completed a draft strategic plan for review by the Board of Trustees. CSSSA will take direction from the Board which may include approval of the proposed plan.
9. Closed Session
The Board of Trustees will enter into closed session to discuss legal matters in keeping with the Bagley Keene Act.
10. Adjournment
(All scheduling and orders of business are subject to change within 10 days prior to the scheduled meeting. Any agenda item is subject to potential action by the Board of Trustees.)
